Welcome

Welcome -

The March Madness Turf Series offers teams high-quality pre-season, full-field turf competition in a flexible, non-traditional format. Instead of a single tournament weekend, teams can self-schedule friendly matches across any of the four weekends in March.

  • CHECK-IN

    • There will be no formal check-in, as this event follows a non-traditional tournament format consisting of scheduled friendly matches

    WARM-UP

    • Please note that warm-up time will be limited in order to keep the game schedule running on time. Teams should not expect designated on-field warm-up time prior to their match

    GAMEPLAY

    • Format:

      • 4v4 | 20-min halves (3-min halftime) | 1 referee

      • 7v7 | 25-min halves (3-min halftime) | 1 referee

      • 9v9 | 25-min halves (3-min halftime) | 3 referees

      • 11v11 | 35-min halves (5-min halftime) | 3 referees

    • All matches will be officiated by certified referees.

    • The team listed first on the schedule will be designated as the HOME team and should wear LIGHT-colored uniforms, while the second-listed team will be the AWAY team and should wear DARK-colored uniforms

    • This tournament follows a non-traditional format but will adhere to MSYSA rules, which will be enforced by the referees. Please note that decisions by referees are final, and no questioning or arguing about the rules will be permitted

  • Our goal is for all teams to enjoy safe, healthy, and competitive matches throughout the month in a flexible format, while also ensuring our facilities and referees are properly supported. Please view the policies below regarding reschedules, cancellations, etc.

    RESCHEDULING

    LATE CANCELLATIONS / NO SHOWS

    • Teams that cancel within 24 hours of their scheduled game time, or do not show up for their game, will be charged the full game fee to cover field and referee costs.

    WEATHER CANCELLATIONS

    • All weather-related cancellations will be handled by MSA staff and/or the referees. Coaches may not cancel games due to weather without first confirming with MFA Director, Derek Dufendach.

  • March Madness ran as a traditional weekend tournament with three guaranteed games—but Michigan weather is unpredictable. We’ve reimagined the event with a new ‘friendly’ style format offering the same mission, the same competition, that’s more reliable, more affordable, and built to get teams ready for the season ahead.
